Comprehensive Evaluations for Adults

Every mind is uniquely brilliant, with its own way of processing, learning, and experiencing the world. When you know how your mind works, you can harness your unique strengths and support areas needing guidance to reach your full potential.

Evaluations for Clear Answers

Many adults struggle with difficulties related to focus, impulse control, executive functioning, or reading and math skills that significantly impact their lives in personal, professional, or academic settings. You might have suspicions about ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, or depression. Our personalized neuropsychological evaluations diagnose neurodiversities that may have gone undiagnosed earlier in life, equipping you with the knowledge to support yourself where you need it while bringing awareness to your extraordinary potential.

What We Assess

Our evaluations can assess a range of conditions and cognitive abilities:

  • ADHD in adults including under-diagnosed ADHD in women
  • Dyslexia and dysgraphia affecting reading and writing abilities
  • Mathematical reasoning and problem-solving neurodiversity like dyscalculia
  • IQ testing for overall cognitive abilities and intellectual functioning
  • Executive functioning testing for planning, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Memory testing for various types of memory and recall abilities

Please note our clinic does not offer evaluations for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). For the most appropriate assessment, we recommend contacting a specialist or clinic that provides adult ASD diagnostic services. Please reach out if you need referrals. If you are looking for an assessment for a child, learn more about our Assessments for Children & Adolescents (ages 6-18).

  1. Assessment Day:
    Understanding Your Brain Starts Here

We offer two evaluation options: comprehensive full-day evaluations with cognitive testing, or focused morning-only evaluations without cognitive testing. Both options provide thorough reports with tailored recommendations. All evaluations include these core components:

    • Standardized questionnaires
    • Diagnostic symptom assessment
    • Clinical interview
    • Continuous performance testing

    Comprehensive evaluations also include:

    • IQ testing
    • Executive functioning testing
    • Memory testing
    • Academic testing (if applicable)
  2. Same-Day Results: Clarity & Next Steps Before You Leave

At the end of your evaluation, you will meet with the neuropsychologist to discuss the results, any relevant diagnoses, and recommendations for next steps such as specialized coaching, therapy, accommodations, or medication. You’ll gain insights into your strengths and areas where additional support is needed.

  3. Full Report: Your Roadmap for What Comes Next

The following week, you’ll receive a comprehensive written report with more in-depth information discussed during your meeting. This report serves as a roadmap for supporting your journey with specific strategies for work, academic settings, and personal life.

Our experienced team of neuropsychologists has established relationships with local experts who offer services for ongoing support like coaching, therapy, and medication consultation.

I’m a school psychologist. I just read one of Dr. Adams’ reports that was written for a child with ADHD, and know how hard practitioners work to write meaningful and useful reports. The recommendations and explanation of ADHD were so clear, concise, and well-written. I found myself rethinking how I might explain ADHD to others, because the explanations were so descriptive and helpful.

What if there is no diagnosis?

Many adults struggle in work, academics, or other aspects of life, but might not meet the necessary criteria to receive a clinical diagnosis. A clinical diagnosis requires a specific threshold of symptoms to be met, but most people appreciate the information they learn about themselves even without a formal diagnosis. An evaluation provides valuable insights into your cognitive strengths and challenges, along with a set of supports and next steps that are uniquely tailored to you.

If I was previously tested, should I bring the results?

If you have been evaluated previously, the neuropsychologists will appreciate reviewing those documents ahead of time. Please upload prior evaluation documents to the client portal when completing your initial paperwork.

Do you accept insurance?

We believe it’s important to provide a comprehensive evaluation for each child. Unfortunately, insurance companies set very specific requirements about how much time can be spent on portions of an evaluation, which often greatly limits the ability to be comprehensive. Minnesota Neuropsychology is an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill or accept payment from insurance directly. By not accepting insurance, we can focus on providing the best possible service to our clients with the most up-to-date tools, research, and thorough and personalized evaluations.

Some insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for neuropsychological evaluation services. If your insurance does provide partial reimbursement, we provide a “superbill,” which is the document insurance requires for out-of-network reimbursement. Please be aware that insurance reimbursement varies by provider and plan, and not all offer reimbursement. Please read our Fees & Payment web page for important details.

What is the benefit of getting a formal ADHD diagnosis?

A formal ADHD diagnosis provides clarity to why certain tasks have always felt more challenging, helping you understand that difficulties with focus, organization, or time management aren’t personal failings but neurological differences that can be addressed.

With a diagnosis, you may gain access to academic/workplace accommodations like flexible scheduling, written instructions, quieter workspaces, or extended deadlines. Some employers are legally required to provide reasonable accommodations, but there are typically requirements, including a formal diagnosis of ADHD, to access them.

The diagnosis also opens doors to tailored interventions. Working with specialists, you can explore medication options, ADHD coaching, or therapy for ADHD. Most importantly, a formal diagnosis helps you advocate for yourself more effectively and gives concrete language to describe your needs in work, education, or healthcare settings. Learn more about our ADHD evaluations for adults and our assessments of ADHD for women, which are historically undiagnosed.

What is the benefit of getting a formal dyslexia diagnosis?

A formal dyslexia diagnosis brings understanding to experiences that may have caused confusion for years. Many adults discover that their difficulties with reading speed, spelling, or processing written information aren’t due to lack of intelligence, but to specific differences in how their brain processes language.

In educational settings, a diagnosis unlocks accommodations like extended test time, oral exams instead of written ones, audiobooks, or text-to-speech software. For adults returning to school or pursuing professional development, these can make the difference between struggling and succeeding.

The diagnosis also connects you with specialized dyslexia tutoring that uses research-based approaches explicitly designed for how dyslexic brains learn. Beyond formal support, having a diagnosis helps you make informed decisions about tools, strategies, and life choices that work with your learning profile rather than against it.Learn more about our dyslexia evaluations for adults.

Should I get cognitive testing as part of my ADHD testing?

We offer two comprehensive testing options:

  • ADHD-focused evaluation: Concentrates primarily on ADHD assessment and diagnosis.
  • Comprehensive cognitive evaluation: Includes ADHD assessment  plus additional cognitive testing covering IQ, executive functioning, memory, and academic testing if needed.

We recommend comprehensive cognitive testing if you need academic accommodations, want to understand your complete cognitive profile, seek a memory baseline for future comparison, or have additional concerns beyond ADHD. This expanded testing can identify strengths and challenges across different cognitive domains, providing a fuller picture of how your mind works.

Both options provide thorough reports with tailored recommendations, including medication, coaching, therapy, and other evidence-based interventions. Your clinician can help you determine which evaluation best fits your needs and goals. If you have questions about which option is right for you, schedule a Free Discovery Call.
