What is your relationship with time?

March 25, 2023

Time management is a prominent struggle for most women with ADHD. Let’s take a look at this from a new perspective.

What is your relationship with Time? Are you and Time on the same team or adversaries? Here’s the profound truth: the answer to this question is completely up to you.

It’s all about perspective. Let’s try it out: Instead of “I’ll never have enough time,” try: “I have exactly enough time to do the things I need to do.” The idea behind this is that the things you need to do will fit into the time you have.

What if we started to think about time as a guiding factor versus a limitation? If there isn’t time for it, maybe you’re not ready for it? Maybe it’s not ready for you? When time limitations arise, instead of that really common knee-jerk reaction of “it’ll never get done!” what about “it’s just not time yet, it’ll come back around.”

Instead of saying “I have time” or “I don’t have time”  (“have” implying that time is something we can actually possess), what if we starting using language like, “Time showed up for me to do…”

Taking a curious approach to time can open us up to having a more organic relationship with our days.

Instead of thinking of time as a finite amount and a linear thing, let’s start thinking of time as infinite and cyclical. Because it kind of is, right?

Next time you’re in a time crunch, try personifying time in your mind (think fairy godmother), and ask yourself, “Ok cool, what kind of goodness does Time have in store for me? It’s different from what I expected, but it’s gonna be good!”
